Discount retailer Lidl has partnered with Diabetes Ireland to provide free diabetes screenings for the chain’s staff and customers across the country.
A custom-built double-decker bus will visit 92 locations across Ireland, including Lidl warehouses and regional offices, to provide health screenings for up to 5,000 members of the chain’s workforce. Customers will also be able to avail of the service at ten different supermarkets over the next two months.
Health Investment
Maeve McCleane, HR director for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, said the €300,000 project follows a similar initiative for cardiac screening that was rolled out two years ago.
“By investing this sum of money we are sending out a clear message to our team that we are invested in their health and wellbeing,” she said.
“Just as important is our ability to reach people all over the country and since we have 1.5 million shoppers per week we are delighted to partner with Diabetes Ireland to offer free diabetes screening to our customers at the same time. Together we hope to raise awareness of the risk factors and encourage more people to reflect on their lifestyle.”
