The Swiss unit of discount retailer Lidl has decided to stop issuing receipts from 1 January 2017 to cut costs and citing ecological reasons.
The sales manager of Lidl in Switzerland, Alexander Wolf, told Italian daily La Repubblica that as a result of its decision, the retailer will eliminate approximately 96,000 till rolls from its stores.
He added that the receipts will be issued only upon special request from the customer.
