Lidl US has hired erstwhile Walmart real estate executive Kevin Sweet as its new senior director of real estate.
Sweet held this position during his period at the US’s largest grocer, between 2010 and 2016. He oversaw approximately 153 Walmart real estate supermarket projects during this timeframe.
Lidl Strategy
The German discounter’s move “could end up being the best hire, short of the new CEO, that they have made to date,” Jose Tamez, managing partner at the executive search firm Austin-Michael told SupermarketNews.com.
Lidl's US operation has a supermarket opening strategy that will see around 100 stores open in the US between now and the summer of 2018, and as many as 500 over the next five years.
