Portugal's Midsid, a company that belongs to the Logista group, one of the largest logistics operators in Europe, has opened its first cash & carry outlet in Portugal.
The new site is located near Midsid's warehouse in Alcochete, less than half an hour from Lisbon, and forms part of the company's plan to expand its food and beverage distribution business in Portugal, it said.
The new facility offers a wife variety of products, including tobacco, cigars, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, confectionery, and food products. It is open to both commercial and individual customers and claims to offer more affordable prices than other wholesale outlets.
Wholesale Expansion
Six additional wholesale distribution stores are set open in Portugal within the next 12 months, according to Manuel Aguiar, general director of the Logista group in Portugal.
The company is also investing in frozen transport and plans to open a new 14,400 square metre warehouse for chilled and frozen distribution in the next three years.
Midsid's Presence In Portugal
Midsid is the largest distributor of tobacco and convenience products in Portugal and has extensive experience in the distribution sector. The company has around 15,000 customers in Portugal, including cafes, restaurants, gas stations, tobacconists, convenience stores, and local stores.
The company reported a turnover of €660 million last year, and it aims to grow 30% in 2023.
The Logista group, which has a turnover of €1.24 billion, supplies around 200,000 local retail outlets in six countries: Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands. Its adjusted EBIT in 2022 came in at €312 million, while net profit stood at €199 million.
