Maxima Latvija has announced it will be significantly increasing the availability of vegan products in its store network.
The retailer said vegan products will now be made available in Maxima X format stores.
Additionally, in the Maxima XX and Maxima XXX stores, the assortment of plant-based products has been expanded by almost 50%, providing shoppers the opportunity to purchase both already popular alternatives to products of animal origin, as well as new vegan products.
Plant-Based Products
In Maxima X stores, customers can find a variety of products such as tofu, plant-based yoghurts with different flavours, vegan cheese slices, vegan sausage and nuggets, as well as other products.
Meanwhile, in the largest Maxima format stores, the range of products has been supplemented with plant-based tuna and salmon alternatives, chia caviar, vegan kimchi, vegetable sausage, among others.
Currently, customers have access to 65 vegan products, as well as more than 50 different vegan and vegetarian items, including the Meistara marka range.
'Sustainable Choices'
"Increasingly, we observe that customers of our stores, both in the regions and in the biggest cities of Latvia, tend to include more plant-based products in their diet and are looking for alternatives to the usual animal products," said Edvīns Lakstīgala, director of category management and procurement at Maxima Latvija.
"By expanding the assortment of vegan products in our stores, customers would have more opportunities to make not only more sustainable choices on a daily basis, but also to enrich and refresh their daily meals with new and nutrient-rich flavours," Lakstīgala added.
Maxima Latvija reported a 6.5% year-on-year increase in turnover to €974.6 million in its financial year 2022.
