Dutch retailer Ahold has appointed James McCann, the former head of Carrefour’s domestic business, to the position of Chief Commerical and Development Officer. McCann’s new role will include overseeing the group's e-commerce businesses in both the Netherlands and the United States, said Ahold. He will also oversee the integration of businesses in new and adjacent markets.
"McCann's experience in developing businesses in different markets, and his knowledge in e-commerce, building customer relationships and strengthening loyalty, will help us accelerate our initiatives in these key growth areas for our business," said Dick Boer, Chief Executive Officer of Ahold.
McCann was hired by Carrefour in February of last year. He was central to Carrefour's plans to restructure its business in France. He stood down from the position in May. Company officials said at the time of his resignation that management were unhappy with the retailer’s commercial performance in France over the last twelve months.
McCann previously held a number of senior positions at Tesco. He will take up the newly-created position at Ahold on September 1st. (1 July)
