McNamara Leaves Tesco For Target

Mike McNamara, who has been instrumental in establishing Tesco's online and e-commerce business since 2011, is leaving the company to become US retailer Target's new chief information officer.

As chief information officer for Tesco, McNamara oversaw all technology across the group, including strategic direction and management of the retailer's website and mobile platforms, in-store technology and behind-the-scenes operations.

He played a key role in modernising Tesco's global IT and supply chain, including its move to online retail with Tesco.com, creation of in-store technologies, and the establishment of Tesco Labs.

Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis, suggesting a change in the executive role as Tesco tries to replace McNamara, commented, "Mike has been a tremendous asset to our business, and we are sad to see him go. Given this change, we take the opportunity to build on Mike's legacy by taking the next step in technology and recruit a chief technology officer."

McNamara will join Target as the US retailer tries to boost its online sales and improve its security following a hacking scandal in 2013.
