Spanish retailer Mercadona has been voted the retail/distribution company with the best reputation in Spain, and the second best company overall, in the Ranking General de Empresas 2017 (General Ranking of Companies).
The title was awarded based on a survey conducted by Monitor Español de Reputación Corporativa - the Spanish monitor of corporate reputation (MERCO).
President of the retail company, Juan Roig, also won an award for the leader with the best reputation in Spain for the third consecutive year.
Evaluation process
MERCO surveyed over 24,000 participants including consumers, executives, representatives of NGOs, unions, and journalists.
The main areas evaluated were social and environmental responsibility of companies, quality of products and services, economic and financial results, internal reputation, and working climate.
Mercadona posted an increase in turnover of 3.9% last year, which the retailer credits to its strategy of innovation, promoting fresh produce, and introducing more efficient store models.
