Mercadona has announced it has made a new delivery of food cards to Red Cross in the region of Murcia.
With this new delivery, the Spanish supermarket chain has donated more than 93,000 kilos of food to families in the region since the beginning of the joint agreement.
The new food cards are equivalent to more than 240 shopping trolleys and families are able to purchase fresh food with these cards at Mercadona stores in the region.
Faustino Herrero, President of the Red Cross in the Region of Murcia, wanted to highlight "the collaboration that Mercadona is maintaining in the Region of Murcia with the Red Cross in concrete actions and initiatives that are allowing a great relief for the families we attend to and who need it so much.
"Mercadona has worked closely with us for several years to help alleviate the problems of people in need, a situation that, unfortunately, does not seem to be solved in the short term."
Charitable Contributions
Mercadona spokesperson Ana Belén Martínez, also commented on the partnership. “This initiative is part of a collaboration agreement that exists between the two entities and has been developing since 2012."
In addition to its partnership with the Red Cross, Mercadona has collaborated with three social soup kitchens abd food banks in Murcia.
In 2016, the company contributed more than 160,000 kilos of basic necessities to different social bodies around Murcia.
