Mercadona finished 2015 with 1,574 supermarkets and appears to be determined to keep growing in 2016.
According to GranConsumo.tv, this month saw the retailer open three new stores across Spain, with new outlets in Seville, Menorca and Toledo.
The new Seville store was the first to open in the city’s upscale Triana neighbourhood. The shop represents an investment of €2.5 million, and its construction created over 300 jobs for the area.
Another store has been opened in the island and Menorca’s capital city, Maó. With the opening of this supermarket, Mercadona now has 48 stores across the Balearic Islands.
Finally, the Valencian company opened another store in Talavera de la Reina, in the Toledo province.
Mercadona is planning to open a total of 60 new stores in Spain this year, with a forecasted investment of €650 million.
