Spanish retailer Mercadona has opened a new supermarket in Bilbao in the Bolueta neighbourhood, the company announced Thursday.
It will encompass 1,500 metres square of sales space, including butchery, perfume, and pharmacy departments.
It will also offer a revamped fish market, local fruit and vegetables, and pre-packaged goods.
The store is also outfitted with sustainable energy measures, like a heat recovery system, efficient lighting, as well as automatic doors. These measures have already reduced consumption by 20%, according to the retailer.
The building cost €3.1 million, involving 74 providers and employing 194 people during its construction. It has created 40 new jobs, and will be the third Mercadona establishment in the Biscay capital.
