Spanish retailer Mercadona has started registering some its trademarks for products and services in Portugal, ahead of the launch that is set for next year, reports Publico.
In May and June, the Portuguese Industrial Property Bulletin reported that three trademark applications had been made by the Spanish group. One of them, according to an official company source, is the acronym SPB, which stands for 'Sempre Preços Baixos' ('Everyday Low Prices').
Portuguese Expansion
Last year, Mercadona announced the expansion of its operation to Portugal. At the time, the company said it plans to invest €25 million and create 250 jobs during the first phase of expansion.
The first four supermarkets in Portugal should be opened within the next year, two of which will be located in the Greater Porto area, and one each in Matosinhos and Gondomar, a company source told daily Publico.
The publication said that Mercadona is still developing the range of products for its Portuguese stores.
