Spanish supermarket group Mercadona has announced that it will add 5,000 employees to its payroll during the upcoming summer season, according to distribucionactualidad.com.
These workers will be employed from June to September, and are an increase of 1,000 on the number of seasonal staff the retailer took on last year.
A Mercadona spokesperson said that all the employees hired for the season will receive proper training to "ensure that the millions of tourists that come to Spain get an excellent image of our supermarkets, and to positively reinforce their experience in the cities where Mercadona is located."
Mercadona currently employs some 75,000 people, with 98 per cent of employees receiving an objectives-based incentive.
