Metro Group’s hypermarket chain, Real has announced a change of top level management, with Chief Financial Officer Henning Gieseke and Chief Merchandise Officer Patrick Müller-Sarmiento taking over joint leadership of the Management Board with immediate effect.
Real will now have four leaders instead of five: Gieseke and Müller-Sarmiento will continue to operate in their respective current roles alongside their new roles as Chairmen of the Management Board. The management team will be completed by Personnel Director, Jörg Kramer and Chief Operations Officer Frank Kretzschmar.
The management board’s current Chairman, Didier Fleury will be taking on a new strategic role, reporting directly to Metro Group Management Board Chairman, Olaf Koch.
Koch praised Fleury’s work at the helm of Real, saying, "Under his leadership, the company was stabilized and groundwork was laid for the sustainable modernization of the hypermarket business in Germany."
He added that, "In Henning Gieseke and Patrick Müller-Sarmiento we have two experienced leadership personalities and retail experts, whose many years of activity at Real will ensure that they have the requisite capabilities and competencies to lead the company on its adopted course, and to provide additional impulses.
"This will secure the continuity required for our successful ongoing realignment and also allow us to create space for new methods."
