Wholesaler Metro has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Düsseldorf to actively contribute towards the city's efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2035.
Metro is part of the network 'Düsseldorf Climate Pact with Business', which includes other partners, such as IHK (Chamber of Industry and Commerce), Handwerkskammer (Chamber of Crafts) and Kreishandwerkerschaft (District Chamber of Crafts).
The network aims to develop measures for a more climate-friendly future for the participating companies as well as reducing energy consumption and decarbonising energy consumption.
The collaboration will focus on the exchange of technical experience between the participating players.
Climate Partnership
Ivonne Julitta Bollow, SVP of corporate responsibility and public policy at Metro AG, said, "Through the climate partnership with the city of Düsseldorf, we want to publicly emphasise the importance of climate and environmental protection for Metro.
"We want to actively engage in more climate and environmental protection at our corporate headquarters and invite our employees to join in. And we are happy if we can motivate other companies in the city to participate in the Climate Pact."
Metro has also pledged to make the Metro Campus climate neutral by 2025 as part of its 'Green Campus' project.
It aims to achieve is targets by reducing energy consumption, switching to renewable energies and offsetting its remaining CO2 footprint, as well as launching further initiatives for local environmental and climate protection.
The German wholesale giant reported an 11.8% increase in sales in the fourth quarter of its financial year, or 12.1% growth in euro-denominated terms.
