Metro Austria has announced the appointment of Angela Wider as its new managing director of purchasing, effective from 1 October 2023.
Wider will succeed Thomas Rudelt, who has been a part of the Metro Group for 40 years and has decided to step down, the company added.
Over the years, Rudelt served in various roles in sales and purchasing at the wholesale group and worked his way to the position of managing director of purchasing at Metro Austria.
For the past six years, he has been a member of the management board, the company noted.
Metro Austria chief executive Xavier Plotitza said, “We would like to thank Thomas Rudelt for his valuable support and high level of commitment over the years. He undoubtedly leaves a strong footprint in the Metro world.”
Angela Wider
Wider, a native of Salzburg, joined Metro in April of last year, as the head of purchasing at AGM/Metro Austria.
Before that, she served as head of procurement and category management at REWE International.
She brings years of experience in the areas of procurement, category management and strategic sourcing in the technical and food industries in Austria, Great Britain, Canada and Italy.
Commenting on the appointment, Plotitza stated, “With Angela Wider, we have an equally competent and committed successor in offer management. I really appreciate her expertise in purchasing and supply chain management, look forward to working with her, and wish her all the best in her new role.”
In August of this year, Metro AG reported a 5.9% increase in currency- and portfolio-adjusted sales in the third quarter of its financial year. Sales in local currency went up by 2.5% in the quarter.
