Metro AG’s acquisition of premium food supplier Rungis Express was officially completed last Friday, 1 April, having been signed off by all antitrust and other relevant authorities.
"We are pleased to now be able to take the next steps together with Rungis Express and discuss the specific details of our future cooperation," commented Metro Cash & Carry CEO Pieter C. Boone.
Metro Group announced its acquisition of Rungis Express in February of this year.
The acquisition includes the logistics activities of Cool Chain Group in Germany, as well as Swiss company Fideco.
Both the Rungis Express brand and the company’s organisational independence will be fully retained as part of the deal. However, at an operational level, Rungis Express will now collaborate with Metro Cash & Carry’s foodservice distribution team.
The deal was completed shortly after Metro's management board announced its plans to split the business into an independent food and wholesale entity and a consumer-electronics entity.
