Germany's Metro Group has announced the commencement of a global partnership with the UN World Food Programme, with a view to combating hunger around the world.
The partnership is built on three pillars, Metro said in a release: 'empowering customers to donate, engaging employees in fundraising, and sharing expertise between the two organizations'.
The initiative was borne out of a linkup between Metro Cash & Carry Italia and WFP Italia, which commenced four years ago.
“We are proud to be partnering with WFP. This cooperation will enhance our strategy for corporate social responsibility and our commitment to corporate citizenship issues,” said Heiko Hutmacher, Member of the Management Board and responsible for sustainability at Metro AG.
