Former Walmart executive Arvind Mediratta has been made Metro Cash & Carry India’s new managing director, Business-Standard.com reports.
He comes from Walmart’s domestic US division, where he held the position of corporate vice president for merchandising. He succeeds Rajeev Bakshi in his new Metro role.
Before working for Walmart in North America, Mediratta held a role in Walmart India, and is credited with being among the establishing figures of its cash-and-carry-unit in the Asian country.
Metro now operates at least 16 wholesale centres in India, with the foundation of its first taking place in 2003. Among these are the four it operates in Bangalore, the two in Delhi, and the three in Hyderabad.
