German wholesaler Metro AG has announced that it will divide its corporate communications and public policy department into two separate divisions.
As part of the move, Gerd Koslowski, 51, will join Metro as the new global director of corporate communications. Koslowski was most recently with Edeka Rhein-Ruhr, where he set up the communications department.
In addition, Ivonne Bollow, 37, will become the global director of the new corporate public policy division. She joined Metro in 2013 and led the internal affairs division within the original corporate communications and public policy department.
Michael Wedell
The global director of the joint corporate communications and public policy department, Michael Wedell, had previously asked the board that his contract be terminated for personal reasons.
The reorganisation of the department was prepared by Wedell, who has held executive positions at Metro since late 2009.
"Michael Wedell has profoundly shaped Metro’s relationships with media, politics and social interest groups over years,” said Olaf Koch, chairman of the management board of Metro.
“By introducing innovative strategies and dialogue formats, he has driven the modernisation of interest representation both within Metro’s national [business] and within our global business."
While he will step down from the board, Wedell will continue to act as an advisor to the company.
Metro recently announced that its Condensed Report 2016/17 had been awarded gold at the Best of Content Marketing Awards.
