Metro Group’s hypermarket business, Real, has opened a new store concept, Markthalle Krefeld, in the Oppum district of the North Rhine-Westphalia city.
The new store covers 11,500 square metres of selling space and has been described as a ‘market-style’ outlet, with a butcher, baker, coffee roaster, cheese counter and fishmonger, among other concepts.
It also boasts an internal dining area, capable of seating up to 110 guests, where the freshly-prepared food on sale in the store can be tasted.
Real chief Henning Gieseke, who was present at the opening of the new store, said that the group did not simply want to “evolve” the former Oppum store, but “create something unique”.
The new store is seen as a prototype of a new store concept developed by Real, which will be rolled out across the estate in the coming years.
