Swiss cooperative retailer Migros has reported a rise in sales for the full year 2012, with total retail sales up 1.4 per cent to CHF 21.346 billion. Group sales were up 0.7 per cent for the year, reaching CHF 25.026 billion.
Its domestic market delivered retail growth of 1 per cent to CHF 20.778 billion, while its international division jumped 16.9 per cent to CHF 0.568 billion.
Migros' 10 Swiss cooperatives generated sales of CHF 14.322 billion, while its cooperative stores abroad has sales of CHF 202 million. The cooperatives introduced average price reductions of 1.4 per cent during the year on over 2,000 items.
While food sales through the group's online retailer, LeShop, were flat at CHF 150 million, it claims to be the "undisputed" market leader in e-commerce, with total e-commerce sales up 6 per cent to CHF 704.5 million. The use of mobile technology contributed 23 per cent of revenues.
The group noted its private label success during the year, particularly with the launch of the Café Royal coffee capsules, and the development of its From the region, for the region' range. The group added eight stores to its network during 2012. (24 Jan)
