Spanish retailer DIA plans to increase the pace of rollout of its new convenience store concept in Portugal, Minipreço Express, this year.
The new format is currently present at about 30 locations Greater Lisbon and Porto areas, and DIA expects the number of Minipreço Express stores to double by the end of 2018.
Minipreço Express is oriented to consumers who seek a fast and simple shopping experience.
The concept is characterised by an increased focus on take-away, self-service and fast-track payment, with the goal of simplifying the purchasing process, while also keeping prices low.
The new image and the format of the brand was created by the By Agency, which was also responsible for all the associated communication and store fitout.
Trial Run
The rollout of the Minipreço Express store format comes after a successful pilot in Lisbon.
Earlier this year, DIA announced it will invest over €25 million in Portugal for the remodeling of more than 100 stores to the new neighbourhood format and for new openings. In addition, the Spanish retailer is also planning to introduce an online grocery service in Portugal during 2018.
At the end of 2017, DIA had 630 stores in Portugal, of which 333 are directly owned and 297 franchised.
