Italian regional supermarket chain Moderna has set up a new business unit, with which the group will seek to develop innovative projects in response to changing consumer needs.
Moderna 2020 will in fact take over all the business activities of Moderna, with Nicola Mastromartino, president of Gruppo VéGé installed at the helm of the business.
According to a company press release, Moderna 2000 will 'reconcile tradition and innovation, ensuring quality, competence, convenience and courtesy with a more technological approach and a greater openness to new product categories such as organic, vegan, ethnic and healthy'.
Store Portfolio
Moderna operates 168 outlets in the Campania, Basilicata and Calabria regions, with a sales area of between 250 and 5,000 square meters.
Under the new programme, the two existing store banners, ete' and Dimeglio, will be flanked by two new convenience formats Xsempre (pictured) and Superdis.
The first three Xsempre stores have been opened in Salerno, Eboli and Castelnuovo Cilento, combining the convenience of a local market with the features of a neighbourhood store, the retailer said.
In addition to the classic store format, there will also be 'gourmet' stores, targeting 'consumers who prefer to shop in a warm and relaxing atmosphere, buying selected, high quality products, and enjoying an excellent level of service'.
Moderna is an associated member of Gruppo VéGé, a leading retail distribution company in Italy consisting of 35 member companies.
