Morrisons' Group Trading Director Steps Down

Morrisons' group trading director, Casper Meijer, has decided to step down from his post.

Meijer has been traveling back and forth between the Netherlands, where his family lives, and the UK since he joined the retailer in 2012.

In a statement by Morrisons made yesterday, the retailer said that would have liked to see Meijer commit to living in the UK full-time, however Meijer did not want to move his family over to Britain.

Meijer's departure comes shortly after Morrisons chief executive officer David Potts announced that he will be constructing a “leaner” management board, with the aim of “simplifying and speeding up the business”.

Potts said in yesterdays statement that "Casper has played an important role in starting the process of making Morrisons better value-for-money for customers. However, we both believe now is the right time for this crucial role to be taken by an executive who will dedicate all their efforts to living and working here in Britain."

Andrew Pleasance, who has been working with Morrisons for more than 30 years, will take over Meijer's position on an interim basis until a new trading director has been found.
