Morrisons has announced its plans to invest £30 million into the provision of subsidised coffee, free wi-fi, and an expanded food choice for staff, in an effort to improve its colleagues' rest areas and make the the work place more comfortable.
The supermarket chain said it will provide casual dining tables and soft informal seating areas, subsidised freshly ground coffee machines, free wi-fi throughout colleague areas, access to mobile phone charging points, and an upgrade of staff toilets.
These revamps will take place over the coming four years.
“We are a business that listens hard to colleagues and responds wherever possible," said the grocer’s CEO David Potts.
"We asked our staff for their views about their stores and many commented about their restrooms, saying they would like them to be more relaxing and offer a better food service. This investment will ensure they are provided with the facilities and food to help them recharge during their breaks.”
Last year it announced that 90,000 of its staff would benefit from a pay increase, with hourly rates going from £6.83 to £8.20, and so exceeding the UK's 'living wage' benchmark.
