Belgian retail group Colruyt has emerged as a favourite among consumers when it comes to promotions, a study found.
A majority of shoppers in the country believe that Colruyt offers the best promotions (47.9%), followed by discounters Lidl (30.2%) and Aldi (29.8%), according to the WES Consumeter survey.
In Wallonia, the race was neck-and-neck between the discount chains, with Aldi inching ahead by a slight margin.
In Brussels, Colruyt emerged on the top spot, followed by Delhaize and Aldi.
Preferred Promotions
The study also revealed that customers found a 50% discount more attractive than a 25% reduction.
Belgian shoppers said they preferred a 50% discount on fresh products over a 'buy one get one free' option.
However, in the case of products with longer shelf life, like beverage and own-brand shampoos, respondents were in favour of a 'plus one' deal.
For promotions offering '33%' and '25%' discount, the response was similar for fresh produce as well as products with a longer shelf life.
Around 35% Belgians said that they use discount coupons regularly, while 25.5% participate in savings campaigns regularly.
The WES Consumeter survey interviewed 1500 Belgians, aged 18 to 74 years.
