UK retail group Marks & Spencer has announced the appointment of Humphrey Singer as its new chief finance officer.
Singer, who is currently group finance director at electronics retailer Dixons Carpohone, will take up the position on a date to be confirmed.
He became finance director of Dixons in 2011, having held several other senior positions since joining the company in 2007, before being appointed as group FD of Dixons Carphone, following Dixons' merger with Carphone Warehouse Group in 2014.
Before that, he also held a number of finance roles at Cadbury Schweppes and Coca-Cola Enterprises UK.
Singer succeeds Helen Weir, who announced her intention to step down as CFO last November. Today the retailer has confirmed that her leaving date is set for 31 March.
Transformation Plan
This appointment comes the day before M&S is scheduled to report on its Christmas trading period.
The retailer launched its five-year transformation plan in November, introducing a series of cost-cutting measures, such as the slowing of food store openings, and the sale of its retail business in Hong Kong and Macau.
M&S chief executive Steve Rowe said that Singer will be "a great addition to the top team" during this transformation period.
"His experience as part of the team that led Dixons through its period of change and migration to multi-channel retailer is most relevant to what we are undertaking here," said Rowe.
"This, coupled with his retail expertise and eye for detail and cost, will be very important to our team dynamic as we move forward."
