Nestlé Launches New Initiative For Research In Food Trends, Sustainability

Nestlé has announced the launch of a new programme, Future Food Initiative, in association with Swiss universities and industrial partners.

The initiative will help Nestlé in the developing trend-based, tasty, nutritious and sustainable food and beverage products, the company said.

It will also incorporate a postdoctoral fellowship program to promote young scientists.

The programme will bring together Swiss leaders in nutritional science and food technology from the academic and industrial arena, including ETH Zurich, the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), as well as companies like Nestlé, Bühler, and Givaudan.

Stefan Palzer, CTO of Nestlé S.A. said, "To address open scientific questions and challenges related to food trends and sustainable nutrition is key for us as we create tasty and nutritious food for all age groups.

A significant part of Nestlé’s global R&D organisation is located in Switzerland, including Nestlé Research.

In 2017, the company invested around CHF 1 billion in Switzerland in R&D, which corresponds to about 58% of Nestlé's total investment in R&D worldwide.
