Nestlé Portugal closed 2016 with total revenues of €480 million, representing an organic growth of 4.7% over the previous year.
The performance in Portugal was better than the global average for the group (+3.2%), as reported by Jornal de Negocios.
Analysing sales only in the national territory, excluding income from exports, the figures stood at €398 million, an increase of 3.5% over 2015.
The growth of sales in Portugal, in general, was due to increased consumption by Portuguese households and the contribution of the 'outside the home' channel.
Foreign sales reached €82 million euros, or 17% of turnover, in line with the previous year.
The company owns three factories in Portugal - in Avanca (multiproduct), in Porto (coffee) and Lagoa (powdered milk) - which export products to a total of 37 countries worldwide. Europe accounted for 83%, followed by Africa with 18%.
The most exported products were dairy powders, coffee, cereal drinks, breakfast cereals and powdered milks.
Nestlé Portugal invested €15 million, of which €5.4 million was sunk into the improvement of the three factories that it holds in the country. For this year, investments are expected to be lower at around €9 to 10 million, according to the director general of Nestlé Portugal, Jordi Llach.
