Tesco has named new chief executives for both its Asia and Central Europe business, as part of a shake-up of its executive committee and international leadership team.
From 1 April, Tony Hoggett will become Tesco’s CEO of Asia, and Matt Simister will become Tesco’s CEO of Central Europe.
Hoggett, who has been with Tesco since 1990, is a former COO of the group's Turkish operations, as well as the retail director and chief operating officer of its UK business.
Simister joined Tesco in 1996. He was a commercial director at Tesco's Czech and Slovak businesses, before returning to the UK to set up its Group Food capability, managing the sourcing, buying and inbound supply chains for the UK, ROI, Central Europe and Asia.
The appointments follow the announcement that Trevor Masters, CEO of Tesco International, will leave the business at the end of May, after a 38-year career with the retailer. His departure, coupled with the completion of the sale of the retailer's Turkish business, has meant that Tesco will now have a 'greater focus [on] two parts of our international business', namely Asia and Central Europe.
“I’d like to thank Trevor for everything he has done for our business over the last four decades," said Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis. "He has worked tirelessly to strengthen and simplify our international business, and we couldn’t have made the progress we have without him.
“Tony and Matt’s work has been at the heart of Tesco’s turnaround over the last two years, and I’m delighted that they will join our executive committee. Their new roles will allow us to focus on the different opportunities presented in Asia and Central Europe, and I’m looking forward to working even more closely with them both.”
