A new Eurospar has been opened in Giovinazzo, in southern Italy, with a strong focus on being environmentally friendly.
Operated by Maiora, a DeSpar Partner, the store has been fitted with low-consumption cooling units and air conditioning systems, and uses LED lights to maximise energy efficiency.
Furthermore, there are plans to put solar panels on the roof of the building to both reduce the store’s energy costs and minimise the site’s carbon footprint.
The total retail selling space of the store is 1,400 square metres, and a large space has been set aside for health and wellness items, including groceries for special dietary needs, such as gluten-free.
Maiora’s President and General Manager, Mr Cannillo, says he wants to modernise the company’s other stores along similar lines. "Our work is aimed at reducing energy consumption and polluting emissions," he said.
"Along with the Eurospar store in Giovinazzo, Maoria’s other new openings have been designed in a way that minimises their environmental footprint and promotes sustainability."
Maoria has also recently re-opened a DeSpar store in Corato that makes use of eco-friendly materials and tries to source its products locally in order to reduce delivery times, costs and waste.
