New Upmarket Aldi Stores Open in Australia

German discounter Aldi has unveiled four new upmarket store layouts in Australia.

The experimental stores, located in four different Australian states, have introduced new in-store bakeries and fresher produce in an attempt to boost sales and increase customer traffic.

According to the Daily Mail, as well as improving the produce, the new stores have had an aesthetic makeover, too, complete with better lighting and new categories, such as organic and food to go. Also, Aldi intends to sell brands with which Australians are familiar, in the hope of targeting the crucial middle market.

This new revamp, referred to as 'Project Fresh', is expected to drive competitors such as Woolworths to lower prices and improve the quality of their products, however, the retail giant has promised that 'Project Fresh' will not interfere with their own original budget-friendly products.
