OCU Report Highlights Spain's Lowest-Price Supermarkets

The Spanish Organisation of Users and Consumers (OCU) has released a report highlighting the least expensive supermarkets in the country.

As reported on its website ocu.org, the organisation visited 1,193 establishments in 63 Spanish cities and online and gathered information about the prices of a sample of 231 items that form its shopping cart.

The OCU's shopping cart features a combination of fresh produce, packed foods, personal hygiene and beauty products. It also includes leading brands as well as own labels.

Auchan's Alcampo is one of the least expensive supermarkets, according to the study, with its shop in Vigo considered the cheapest in Spain, and several other outlets in the lower price range.

On the opposite side, Sánchez Romero in Madrid and the online shop Ulabox were pointed out as the most expensive stores.
