Online sales at hypermarkets, supermarkets and food shops in Spain reached €80.6 million between January and March of this year, which represents a growth of almost two thirds (64.5%) compared to the €49 million achieved during the same period last year.
As reported by lavanguardia.com, the average expenditure per transaction in this category was approximately €100, a similar figure to that reported during the first quarter in 2015, according to the Spanish National Commission of Markets and Competence (CNMC).
This growth comes after the Spanish online food retail sector experienced a large increase in product variety, however, food is still a small part of the overall ecommerce market in Spain: €80.6 million within a €5.414 billion market.
