Following a general shareholder assembly at retail consortium Despar Italia, Paul Klotz has been appointed the group's new president.
Since 2000, Klotz has been the managing director of Aspiag Service, one of the six companies that make up Despar Italia (the others are Maiora, Ergon, Fiorino, L’Alco and SCS).
From 1999, he served in Despar Italia as a member of the steering committee on behalf of Aspiag Service. Subsequently, in December 2014, he was appointed vice president of the consortium.
Klotz is also a member of the board of Spar International. Last year Spar International reported sales totalling €33 billion, with Italy being the fourth biggest market in terms of turnover.
In a statement, Klotz said that the company's goal for the coming years will be to increase value by expanding its regional presence. He announced that a working group has already started working on developing the potential of Despar Italia’s affiliate channel, including enhancing the insignia in the neighbourhood format.
