The Portuguese are among those most influenced by supermarket promotions, a study has found.
According to the international study by Nielsen, confirmed by local price comparison site KauntoKusta Supermercados, three in four Portuguese seek out the best offers before entering a supermarket.
Some 77 per cent of respondents admit to 'taking some time to find true bargains' in store, which is 16% higher than the EU average.
According to the study, the main concern of the typical Portuguese shopper is to 'find the best prices and to spend less time on grocery shopping'.
The greatest demand for promotions is in the categories of dairy products, drinks, sweet and savoury grocery products, as well as baby products. The most popular supermarkets/hypermarkets are Continente, Pingo Doce and Jumbo.
