Single-price retailer Poundland has announced that it is finalising plans to open around 20 stores in former Poundworld locations in the UK.
The retailer will also introduce budget fashion brand Pep&Co in eight of the new locations along with general merchandise and food offers.
“We’re trading strongly and stores with a Pep&Co fashion store are a hit with customers,” said Poundland’s UK & Ireland managing director Barry Williams.
“That’s why we’re keen to find larger sites that enable us to bring our widest ranges to more high streets across the country,” Williams added.
The stores are expected to open in October 2018, with the first few stores opening in Edinburgh (Cameron Toll), Killingworth (Tyne & Wear), East Kilbride and Ayr.
Job Creation
The new stores are expected to create more than 400 jobs. The retailer has also offered guaranteed interviews for former Poundworld staff who are interested in working for the company.
In June of this year, Poundworld had gone into administration, putting 5,100 jobs at risk.
Poundland attracts 7,000,000 shoppers every week, and is a significant driver of footfall to UK high streets and shopping locations.
Fashion retailer Pep&Co is present in more than 300 locations in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
