Premier Foods has signed an employer pledge with UK-based social movement Time to Change to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in the workplace.
As a part of the pledge, Premier Foods will attempt to break the silence and stigma associated with mental health issues among its employees.
"Creating A Great Place To Work"
HR and communications director at Premier Foods, David Wilkinson, said, “We’re committed to creating a great place to work. By signing the pledge we’re showing that we live our values and respect and encourage one another, enabling everyone to do their best without judgment or discrimination.”
It will also provide support to individuals who need assistance with their mental health problems.
Director of Time to Change, Jo Loughran, appreciated Premier Foods' move and said, “Too many people with mental health problems are made to feel isolated, ashamed and worthless, but with the right support, those of us with mental health problems can recover and have equal opportunities in all areas of life. ”
Time to Change is a social movement backed by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.
Other Initiatives
Apart from the pledge, the food manufacturer also organised a number of other activities to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October.
It organised a lunchtime health walk in St Albans, and employees wore blue and purple hair nets while working in its factories in Lifton, Andover, Ashford, High Wycombe, Carlton, Worksop, Moreton, Charnwood and Stoke on Trent.
Around 800 organisations are a part of Time to Change pledge, including E.ON, British Gas, Ernst & Young, Transport for London, Royal Mail, Barclays, Shell, Pepsico, the Church of England, Sunday Mirror, Marks and Spencer, WH Smiths and many NHS trusts, universities, and local authorities.
