Rewe Group has announce that it has withdrawn its appeal against the ministerial approval for the merger of Edeka and Kaiser's Tengelmann, clearing the path for the completion of the deal.
Rewe, which is to acquire 62 Kaiser's Tengelmann stores in Berlin, said that it had been "fighting to guarantee the employment for Kaiser's Tengelmann workers."
In a saga that commenced back in 2014, Rewe was one of a number of retailers that opposed Edeka's takeover of the Kaiser's operation, with local competition authorities and the German farmers' association, Deutscher Bauernverband, also raising objections.
Kaiser's Supermarket, a subsidiary of the Tengelmann Group, boasted had around 451 stores and 15,958 employees.
