Rewe Group has pledged its support to aid agencies assisting with the ongoing migrant crisis in Europe.
A relief action carried out among the German retailer's customers and colleagues enabled it to donate 11,000 winter jackets, 2,000 trousers and 10,000 blankets to the Red Cross.
“Many refugees have been forced to leave their belongings behind. To help them out is a matter of course for us”, Rewe Group CEO Alain Caparros said in a statement. “Cities and communities can't handle the flood of refugees. Support from companies is gaining in importance.”
Caparros added that Rewe is looking at integrating migrants and their families into its workforce.
“The integration of young refugees in our society and in working life is of prime importance," he said. "We offer internships and apprenticeship training positions in the fields of sale, logistics and the main office."
