Germany's REWE Group has been presented with an Econ Award for its online sustainability report, by Econ Verlag and the Handelsblatt Group.
The Econ Award jury awarded the retailer's 2015/16 online sustainability report, titled Miteinander, with a silver award in the 'Corporate Reporting' category.
"Transparency plays a central role in our sustainability strategy," said Nicola Tanaskovic, head of corporate responsibility at REWE Group.
"As REWE Group, we have been reporting to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) since 2009. We moved from a print-online report to a modern online reporting format that has set standards for the industry. We are pleased that the jury recognises our commitment."
Supply Chain Transparency
Above all, the jury said that the REWE Group Online Sustainability Report impressed with its comprehensive picture of supply chains and transparency.
"The mode of action of sustainable processes, with thoughtful and catchy presentation is made comprehensible for the readers," they said.
"Central themes are emphasised and the contents are optimally worked out. In addition, interactive elements bring a lot of variety into this digital report."
Since 2007, the jury members of the Econ Awards Corporate Communications have evaluated the submissions in the field of corporate communications, according to a comprehensive and detailed list of criteria.
The list is divided into the categories of corporate responsibility strategy, representation of areas of responsibility, credibility, relevance, transparency and presentation.
Starting this year, the REWE Group Sustainability Report will be published annually, while continuing to be available in digital format and in accordance with the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standard.
Under the title 'Tradition. Diversity. Future.', REWE Group's Sustainability Report for 2017 outlines the group's sustainable commitment to the four pillars of its sustainability strategy - 'Green Products', 'Energy, Climate and Environment', 'Employees' and 'Social Commitment'.
