Richard Baker, who currently sits on the board of the British Retail Consortium (BRC), will become the new chair of the retail industry trade association, beginning on 1 of September, as Sir Charlie Mayfield steps down.
Helen Dickinson, CEO, said "Richard’s CV speaks for itself. His wealth and breadth of experience will be critical as we take the BRC forward through a period of profound political and economic change."
Sir Charlie Mayfield, who will be stepping down after serving a two-year term, added "Richard's strong record in both managing and chairing consumer business will serve the BRC well for the next phase of development. I wish Richard and everyone at the NRC every success in the future."
Richard Baker is currently chairman of DFS, which is a member of the BRC. He was Chief Executive of Alliance Boots Group Plc from 2003 to 2007 and before that he was Chef Operating Officer at Asda Group Plc.
Richard Baker commented, "The BRC has a strong track record of championing the needs of British retailers – small, medium and large. A backdrop of unprecedented transformation in the industry and many external uncertainties provides a real opportunity to influence the future".
