The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has announced that Richard Baker will retire from his position as chairman on 1 February 2018. He will be replaced by Richard Pennycook.
Pennycook’s career covers 25 years of service in retail, including a number of senior positions at Allders, Laura Ashley, Welcome Break and Morrisons. He recently stepped down as CEO of the Co-operative Group.
Challenging Period
“We are in the midst of a very challenging period for the future of the retail industry with a huge amount at stake,” said Pennycook.
“Having a strong, coherent voice for Britain’s retailers is vital if we are to ensure the industry plans its full part in building the skills, opportunities and prosperity of the nation,” he added.
Pennycook will cooperate with the BRC’s chief executive Helen Dickinson and the organisation's board members to advocate for the UK retail industry.
