ANPC Investigates Cora
On October 29, ANPC inspectors visited four stores operated by Cora's Romanian arm, S.C. România Hypermarche S.R.L.
Among the issues it encountered were fruit and vegetables being labelled as 'quality', when they showed signs of being substandard; marketing of products past their expiry date; non-compliance with temperature indications; dust and dead insects in parts of assisted display cases; visible wear and tear on in-store equipment, as well as a number of other issues.
It issued a fine of RON 120,000, and issued a temporary cessation of certain services at the Cora Lujerului, Cora Pantelimon, Cora Văcărești and Cora Alexandriei outlets.

On 1 November, the ANPC visited four Auchan Retail stores, where a number of similar inconsistencies were logged, including the marketing of substandard fruit and vegetable products, the use of raw materials beyond their expiry date, incorrect temperatures for particular foodstuffs and insufficient cleaning of a number of surfaces.
It issued a RON 102,000 fine, as well as issuing temporary cessation of a number of services at the Auchan Vitan, Auchan Militari, Auchan Titan and Auchan Berceni outlets.
