Romanian retail chain Profi has become the first retailer in the country to open 1,000th stores, reports Romania Insider.
The retailer has opened around 500 outlets in cities, small towns and villages in Romania, and is one of the fast-growing retail chains in the country.
The retailer operates three formats, which include the standard supermarkets, the Profi City proximity shops in urban areas, and Profi Loco shops in rural areas.
In 2016, it was taken over by private equity fund Mid Europa Partners.
Since then, the company, which employs around 16,000 people, has doubled its store network.
In 2017, Profi reported a turnover of more than €1 billion and a net profit of €28 million.
