British retailer Sainsbury's announced on Friday that it has hired Phil Jordan as Group CIO.
Jordan will be joining the company in January 2018, as a member of Sainsbury’s operating board.
In a statement about his new role, Jordan said “I’m delighted to be joining Sainsbury’s as Group CIO.”
“The role of the Digital & Technology function in the retail sector has never been greater as the pace of change accelerates. Technology and digital services extend to every part of Sainsbury’s and, following its recent expansion, this is a very exciting time to join the Group.”
Established Figure
The 2016 CIONET European CIO of the Year spent 12 years in Vodafone as Regional CIO. He then moved to Telefonica O2 in the UK before going to Madrid to become Telefonica Global CIO.
In a tweet, Jordan said he was "incredibly proud of the job Global IT has done and is doing at Telefonica".
He will be reporting to Group Chief Executive, Mike Coupe, who said “I am pleased to announce that Phil Jordan will be joining us in the role of Group CIO of Sainsbury’s Group.”
“His appointment recognises the strategic importance of digital and information technology as an enabler for our future success and sets us up to deliver excellence in this area across the business.”
