British supermarket Sainsbury's has announced that Brian Cassin will join the Board as a non-executive director on April 1. He will be a member of the Audit Committee and the Nomination Committee.
Meanwhile, Susan Rice will be appointed senior independent director at the supermarket's AGM on July 6.
The appointments follow the retirement of John McAdam, senior independent sirector, who will step down in July after ten years as a non-executive director.
Brian Cassin is chief executive of global information services company Experian. He joined Experian as CFO in April 2012, which he held until his appointment as CEO in July 2014. Prior to this, he worked in investment banking at Baring Brothers International from 1992 to 1998, and Greenhill & Co from 1998 to 2012.
Commenting on the appointment, David Tyler, chairman of Sainsbury’s, said, “We are delighted to welcome Brian Cassin as a Non-Executive Director. He is an ideal addition to our Board, bringing present day experience of running a FTSE40 company and of big data and analytics - topics of key importance to Sainsbury’s.
He continued, “I would also like to thank John McAdam for his invaluable contribution to the Board and Sainsbury’s over the last ten years, and particularly for his counsel in his role as Senior Independent Director. I look forward to working with Susan in her new role as Senior Independent Director following John’s departure.”
