Sainsbury’s Introduces Group Chief Digital Officer Role

UK retailer Sainsbury’s has announced that Clodagh Moriarty has been promoted to its operating board as group chief digital officer, with immediate effect.

Moriarty will create and lead the company’s digital strategy, ensuring customers experience an integrated and seamless digital experience across Sainsbury’s, Argos, Sainsbury’s Bank and the Nectar loyalty programme.

Digital Shopping

“It’s a really exciting time to be working in retail and digital innovation is key to making our customers’ shopping experiences easier,” Moriarty said, commenting on her new role.

“I am supported by talented colleagues across the group and see lots of opportunities to build on our existing platforms. I am delighted to be joining the operating board at such a pivotal time for our company.”

She has worked with Sainsbury’s for over eight years, most recently acting as the director of online, where she ran Sainsbury’s Groceries Online business.

Seamless Experience

Group chief executive, Mike Coupe, added, “The creation of the new group chief digital officer role demonstrates the importance we place on giving customers outstanding and seamless digital shopping experiences. Investment in this area is vital to our future success and I am confident that Clodagh has the expertise and leadership we need in this area.”

Earlier this week, Sainsbury’s announced that it has teamed up with consumer goods giant Unilever to unveil five in-store ice cream parlours, built around the Ben & Jerry’s and Carte D’or brands.
