Denmark’s Salling Group has announced the appointment of Anja Madsen as the director of its supermarket chain føtex, effective September 2020.
In her new role, Madsen will succeed Thor Jørgensen and lead the continued development of the Group's supermarket activities.
CEO of Salling Group, Per Bank, commented, “Anja [Madsen] comes with a very strong background from some of the very best in retail.
"With a skill set that is unprecedented in Danish retail, and with her customer insight and her tireless focus on customers, she is the perfect fit to build on the good development of føtex.”
An Experienced Professional
She is an experienced professional with a deep understanding of modern consumer behaviour in the European retail sector.
Presently, Madsen manages Sainsbury's supermarkets and convenience stores in London, and is responsible for Sainsbury's online activities and strategy development.
She worked with Tesco for five years in the UK in the supply chain, operations, and organisational development.
She has also worked with Johnson & Johnson in Europe and the Middle East.
Fulfilling The Vision
Commenting on her new role, Madsen said, “ I am incredibly grateful to have come to know as many parts of retail as I have had the opportunity [to work] in Sainsbury's and Tesco.
“Now, I look forward to bringing it into play in the Danish market and doing everything I can to help fulfill Salling Group's vision.”
Madsen also serves as a member of the boards of Lemvigh-Müller, Denmark's largest steel and engineering wholesaler, and Demant, a leader in hearing aids and sound systems.
